Class Characteristics:
Under general supervision, organizes and directs information pertaining to the finance department; performs related duties as required.
Position works with a team of Accounting Clerks with a majority of the job duties falling within one category:
Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, or Payroll.
Cross-training in other categories is required.
This position is specifically responsible for completing the bi-weekly payroll for the City of Murray for over 100 employees.
Position requires attention to detail to ensure accurate payroll and confidentiality with regard to handling personal information.
The successful candidate must demonstrate commitment to the position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Payroll 1.
Input data into payroll software, checking for and resolving variances, and processes payroll checks and direct deposits.
2.
Compiles payroll adjustments for garnishments, worker's compensation, child support, Flex, insurance coverage, and taxes.
3.
Completes payroll vouchers, summaries, and reimbursements.
Reconciles, performs adjustments, resolves variances.
4.
Prepares and submits retirement report and payment to Kentucky Retirement Systems.
5.
Reviews computed wages and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll.
6.
Analyzes information and reports to resolve payroll discrepancies.
7.
Submits payment for employee and employer state and federal income taxes and social security.
8.
Maintains payroll system by entering changes to employee information such as job title, department, and division transfers.
9.
Record transactions for Court Awards.
10.
Maintain Insurance files, code checks and invoices received for claims and premiums.
11.
Assists other office personnel as requested.
12.
Additional duties as assigned.
Non-essential:
May be assigned as needed to support the Finance department.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration preferred.
Equivalent related work experience will be considered.
